Strategic Planning book for intense strategic planners

I bought this book to follow along with what my daughter is studying in college for her masters in non-profit. For a novice in the field of strategic planning I found it somewhat difficult to understand. I also borrowed the text book from a friend who has been through the program. It reads like a book written by college professors letting you know they are smart...which they probably are...but hard for the non-profit director who is a novice in strategic planning to understand. I wish it had been written in plainer English so I could apply this knowledge more directly to my work for a non-profit organization.

ooooo I love this book

I loved how strong the heroine was in this book, and hated/loved the stupidity and stubbornness of the hero. Both had well written and explained personalities/tragedies/characteristics that the reader will either love or hate. This story definitely tugged on my heart strings a couple of times through out the book. My one little beef with this story was the whole apology scene. As you know with any romance story, there is a high and then a low and then a high again with the happy ending (oh, gosh I can't even recall what those particular moments are called--dang english classes don't fail me now!). I felt like she took back the hero too easily. I wish that there was a little more fight from the hero's end. It was almost too easy the way he won her back, and it made him seem like even more of a baby (b/c everyone was giving into his selfish desires so quickly and easily)

Great story

I've been reading books with main characters who are disabled in some way and came across this (I also recommend 'One Unashamed Night', different author). In doing so, I have found that I like this author's work very much and I've read at least six or seven of her books. Anyhow, this story follows Jake McPhearson (a minor character in 'The Wedding Promise' and a double amputee) and picks up after his wife, Lorenna ('Rena') dies. I encourage you to read 'The Wedding Promise' first (a great book). You'll have a better understanding of Jake, and a deeper sense of loss over his 'Rena' if you do, although this book certainly can stand alone. His son's teacher comes to pay the angry, rude recluse a visit and things go from there. One of Davidson's better works to be sure.

I have read most of this author's work and loved it. This story was so real and beautiful. the hea is slow to build between the main characters and realistic. These are real people with real problems who find love together. I read this in one night and recommend it to anyone. It is set in an old west time frame but is a story that transcends time.

A Catalog Becomes an Art Book

The book has 258 pages, 44 figures, and 175 plates. The parts are: foreword, acknowledgements, introduction, five essay/articles, plates, selected contextual chronology, selected bibliography, exhibition checklist, lenders, and index. The essays are: "Fuller's Geological Engagements with Architecture" (by K. Michael Hays, co-curator), "Thought Patterns: Buckminster Fuller the Scientist-Artist" (by Dana Miller, co-curator), "Fuller's Avatars: a view from the Present" (by Antoine Picon), and "The Comprehensivist: Buckminster Fuller and Contemporary Artists" (by Elizabeth A. T. Smith). A reprint of the 1966 New Yorker magazine article is: "In the Outlaw Area" (by Calvin Tomkins).

I learned many things about Fuller in this book. I also learned how he fits into our world, then and now. An essay covers artists that have been influenced by Fuller, showing how his work has a continuing impact. Like the exhibit, the catalogue focuses on his visual output: his designs for cars, structures, cities, books, and how they were built. His views on math and his starting point, the universe, aren't much in sight. It shows where he ended up as of now.

In an interview in Metropolis Magazine, Michael Hays said, "We thought about calling the exhibition "shapes of the universe" because Bucky thought that a geodesic dome was what the universe looked like in some diagrammatic way. And now we know that nanotechnology actually does use that kind of geometry." On the contrary, in his essay Antoine Picon says, "Of course, we no longer believe that the universe obeys at a fundamental level the laws of synergetic geometry." Presented with such widely divergent views I'm forced, as Bucky often recommended, to do my own thinking. And it is deepened reading this book, looking at its many figures and plates, and following its leads as a valuable addition to a library of other Fuller books (both by and about).

I paid $50 for the catalog at the museum. It costs considerably less online.

Inspirational!

This book is the perfect companion to an inspirational exhibit. For those who saw it this is a perfect way to revisit the exhibit. For those who can't attend this is a great introduction to Bucky Fuller and his universal view.
