If you could have any animal's front teeth, whose would you choose?
WHAT IF YOU HAD ANIMAL TEETH? takes children on a fun, informative, and imaginative journey as they explore what it would be like if their own front teeth were replaced by those of a different animal. Featuring a dozen animals (beaver, great white shark, narwhal, elephant, rattlesnake, naked mole rat, hippopotamus, crocodile, and more), this book explores how different teeth are especially adapted for an animal's survival. At the end of the book, children will discover why their own teeth are just right for them. And they'll also get a friendly reminder to take good care of their teeth, because they're the only teeth they'll ever have. Each spread features a photograph of the animal using its specialized teeth on the left and a humorous illustrated image of a child using that animal's teeth on the right.

Losing a first tooth is a memorable milestone in the life of a young person. Markle uses this universal experience to pose a relevant, though slightly unsettling, scientific inquiry: “But what if an animal’s teeth grew in, instead?” In a fashion germane to her audience, she presents interesting animal trivia via examples and common happenings in their own lives—for example, if you had naked mole rat teeth, you could operate them separately like chopsticks. McWilliam’s huge-jawed illustrations, such as a young Inuit fishing with a narwhal tusk or a frustrated student mowing through his math book with a beaver’s orange-colored incisors, are somehow both hilarious and terrifying. Meanwhile, photos of open-mouthed animals accompany the text. Though perhaps not the best choice for the nightmare-prone, this will surely satisfy animal enthusiasts and trivia lovers, and dentists and parents will appreciate the mention of ways to keep human chompers healthy. Grades 1-3. --Erin Anderson

well illustrated comparative anatomy book for kids
By sweetitarian
This book is very engaging - especially relevant for kids just starting to loose their teeth. The animals include traditional selections such as an elephant and lesser known animals like a naked mole rat. The format has a good rhythm - the left page talks about the unique features of the animals' teeth, and the right page shows an illustration of what a child would look like with that animal's teeth. It's a good length; a variety of examples with colorful illustrations and a succinct amount of text on each page.

Animal Teeth
By WTGGG
Super cute book for a loose tooth "tooth fairy" book...most of those types of books appeal to girls, this one is great for boys and girls! Good easy and educational read. My son's front teeth were coming in when we read it, he read it everyday that week and I took it to school for guest reading!
